The Seahawks Need a Pass Rusher

  1. I'm not a huge fan of sacks as a metric because I think it's one of the most meaningless sports statistics there is. You can't tell if it was due to legitimate pressure where the offensive line was overwhelmed or if the QB is at fault for holding the ball too long (in which case it's not indicative of pressure at all). Other sites like ProFootballFocus use 'QB pressures' as a statistics which is a step in the right direction - but even then I am still skeptical as that requires an individual judging something that is still a bit ambiguous.

To be more constructive with my feedback, you might consider looking at the mean and variance of sack rate per dropback. For instance, although the Bengals and Texans defense had more total sacks, opposing QBs may be dropping back to pass way more often against them and so the overall probability of a sack may be much closer across the 3 teams.

All that being said, anyone who watched the Seahawks this season shouldn't have to see that chart to know that interior pocket pressure was the biggest problem for the team.
